Who We Are

Ishtar Beck, MA, RCC

(she/her) Founder and Clinical Director

First and foremost, I am a human being who has lived and learned through personal challenges. The archetype of the Wounded Healer informs my counselling practice deeply. As I have lived through ‘tough stuff’ myself, I feel called to hold a space for you as you face ‘tough stuff’. It truly is an honour, and I look forward to walking alongside your next steps in your healing journey.

At heart, I view the counselling space as an environment which fosters greater clarity, self-compassion, and connection to inner knowing. Understanding and attuning, truly being curious about where you are coming from and joining you as you focus within are key elements in my practice. I work with adults, youth, and families.

Rachael Curtis, MC, RCC

(she/her) Registered Clinical Counsellor

Healing from adverse experiences and trauma is a path I have walked. I understand the intensity and challenge of it. As a queer person, a disaffiliate of conservative Evangelicalism, and a career shifter, I am all too familiar with the fear, grief, and confusion resulting from major life transitions. Through counselling, I found courage, hope, clarity, and strength. I believe you can and will experience these transformations in your own ways. I am here to sit with you as you discover your next steps to feeling better and creating desired changes.

Availability: Monday 9:00am-5:00pm, Wednesday 1:00pm-9:00pm, Friday 9:00am-3:00pm

Types of Sessions: I find the connection and warmth of in-person sessions integral to the work we do together. Therefore, I tend to offer mostly in person sessions (90%) with limited virtual sessions available (10%). To ensure continuity of counselling, remote sessions are offered on those occasions when either the client or I are away, or one of us is ill and cannot meet in person.

Areas of Practice:

  • Religious trauma

  • Childhood trauma, abuse, neglect

  • LGBTQIA2S+ issues

  • Life transitions

  • Relationship issues

  • Workplace issues

  • Grief and loss

  • Anxiety, depression

  • Chronic pain

Pam van Woerkom

Booking Coordinator

Your inquiry is important. I aim to answer your questions and make the inquiry process smooth and welcoming.

To begin counselling, the first step is booking an initial phone consultation with one of the counsellors. This is so you can find out if their services and schedules are a fit for you. I will assist you with booking your initial phone consult and I am also here to help with referrals, provide information, and take care of administrative matters at CounsellingHome.

E-mail availability: 9:00am-3:00pm, Monday-Friday.

Please note: if you inquire during the weekend, please expect my reply on Monday and make sure to check your spam folder!

OUR APPROACH

We believe that people of all ages are resilient, and are constantly engaged in learning.

Every human being has created, and can therefore transform, their attitudes, actions, life vision, and ways of belonging. With intent and dedication, we believe all folks are able to significantly impact their day-to-day struggles in a positive way. Our bodies, minds, hearts, and relationships can heal.

As professional counsellors, we are committed to supporting your goals. We will hold space for your struggle and your complicated feelings. We will witness your growth, healing, and unfolding as you experience them. The journey’s destination is your life: coming home to yourself, to living the fullest life you can live.

When we are no longer able to change a situation, we are challenged to change ourselves.
